SUMMARY:Krystle Lemonias Artist Talk
DESCRIPTION:Date: Friday\, Nov. 12 6pm \nLocation: Dr. Noble Watts Amphitheater (320 S. Clara Ave.) Or Join Via Zoom Livestream \nRegistration: tinyurl.com/aama-registration * Registration Required \nABOUT THE ARTIST\nKrystle Lemonias is recognized for her influences from the intersecting concepts of class\, commodification\, gender\, economic inequity\, citizenship\, and labor rights. She believes immigrant Black communities contribute richly to the United States’ cultural diversity and the workforce despite the barriers faced. Her works explore primarily women’s domestic labor contributions that play an integral role in the function of our society and contemplate the domestic socialization passed on through generations to do these jobs. She uses found materials\, patios\, printmaking methods\, and iconography to stitch together these themes with personal narratives. \nABOUT THE DR. CHARLES WHITE SPEAKER SERIES\nThe Dr. Charles White Speaker Series was founded in 2021 by the Creative Arts Department Anti-Racism Committee for Equity (CREA ACE) as part of its mission to advance equity for and inclusion of historically underrepresented ethnicities and races in the arts. The Dr. Charles White Speaker series brings visiting artists of color to Stetson’s campus to share their work and experience with our students and with the broader community. \nIn the 1970s\, the Stetson Afro-American Society organized Black Emphasis Week and brought Charles White to campus as a visiting artist in 1973. Dr. White is believed to be among\, if not the\, first Black artist to visit Stetson University.
